Aldabra Giant Tortoises, Geochelone gigantea

Aldabra Giant Tortoises, Geochelone gigantea, are native to the island of Aldabra Atoll. They are named Giant for good reason. Their carapace can be about 4 feet in length, and adult males can weigh over 500 pounds. Aldabra Giant Tortoises are herbivores, eating mainly grass and leaves, but will readily eat fruits in captivity.
